AMC Boston Chapter HB Hikes

This page gives more information on Appalachian Mountain Club Boston Chapter Hiking and Backpacking Committee events that I will be envolved with.  The length limitations in the AMC Outdoors and the Boston Chapter Mud often require information to be left out.  The official URL to this page (http://www.embedinc.com/olin/hikes/hb) is usually given with the hike description.

Upcoming Events

There are currently no events scheduled that I'll be envolved in.

Memorable Moments

This section contains mostly pictures from past events that I think you might find interesting.  However, please respect the copyright of these images.

The ice storm of 1998

Northern New England and much of Eastern Canada got hit by an unusually severe ice storm that went on most of the week and finally ended the night of Friday, 9 January 1998.  As luck would have it, I was co-leading a Harvard Cabin weekend starting that same night.

Climbing up icy tree The picture on the right was taken the next morning in Crawford Notch near the old train station as we were getting ready to hike up Mt Avalon.  The ice covering the trees was so thick that Mike Hansen of the New Hampshire chapter was able to climb right up.  (He did this to pose for the camera to demonstrate how solid the ice was).

Foliage 1997

Foliage from Table Rock, Maine Fall is a beautiful time in New England, and the fall of 1997 was particularly spectacular.  This picture was taken on 12 October from Table Rock in Maine, looking northwest across Grafton Notch.
