RSLink TTL to RS-232 Converter

The RSLink converts between typical microcontroller 0-5 volt UART signals and the true RS-232 signals required to communicate with a standard PC COM port.  On the microcontroller side it connects to ground, 5V power, and the 0-5 volt receive and transmit lines.  The RS-232 interface is via a female DB-9 connector.  It can be connected to a standard PC COM port with a straight thru extension cable.

Specifications

• Microcontroller signals: Standard 0-5 volt TTL levels.  Line idle is high, active is low. 

• PC signals: Standard RS-232 compatible with PC COM port, for example.  Line idle is low, active is high.  Pin 2 is the transmit line (out from RSLink), pin 3 the receive line (in to RSLink), and pin 5 is ground.  No other pins are connected.  This is directly compatible with a standard PC COM port.  You could plug a RSLink directly into a PC COM port, or use a "straight thru" extension cable. 

• Power: Supplied by microcontroller interface.  Requires 4.5 to 5.5 volts at 15mA maximum. 

• Microcontroller connections: 4 pin locking header, Molex 22-23-2041 or equivalent.  Intended to mate with Molex 22-01-3047 or equivalent, available from Jameco as 234819 with pins 234923, or DigiKey as WM2002-ND with pins WM1114-ND. 

• Speed: 120Kbaud maximum. 

• Optional power connection: Two thru-hole pads labeled "GND" and "5V".  These can be used to supply power separately from the microcontroller interface.  If used, only the OUT, GND, and IN lines of the microcontroller interface need be connected. 

• Size: Circuit board is 1.4 x 1.2 inches (36 x 30 mm).  Whole unit is 1.6 x 1.2 x 0.6 inches (40 x 30 x 16 mm). 

• Temperature: 0-70 degrees Celsius operating range. 

• Two layer circuit board with bottom layer ground plane.
